| KISSING PILLOWS HEG is helping the Yellow Rose Chapter by making “Kissing Pillows” for soldiers who are being deployed away from their families. A heart shaped design is cross stitched onto 14-count Aida cloth. It is backed with cotton fabric in patriotic colors and made into small pillows. The soldier kisses the pillow and gives one it to each of his or her children as a keepsake to hold onto while the parent is away. The designs are small and simple enough to keep in your purse and stitch when you are waiting at the doctor’s office or elsewhere. The chart is on our website or call Marianna Carmichael. The design is copy-righted by Geraldine Trappey of Yellow Rose and we have permission to use it as members of HEG for this specific purpose. Marianna Carmichael has plenty of Aida cloth for you. Let’s see how many we can get done for Yellow Rose to distribute to our soldiers. It’ s the least we can do! Remember our goal for 2009 is to have each member stitch 12 kissing pillows. Everyone who stitches 12 pillows will receive a charm. Habitat for Humanity Northwest Harris County Stitching samplers for Habitat for Humanity – Northwest Harris County (www.habitatnwhc.org) is an ongoing HEG project. Our members cross stitch personalized samplers incorporating the Habitat logo. HEG gets the samplers framed and presents each family with their personalized sampler at their home dedication ceremony. Kits are available from Mary McClanahan. This year's goal - only two samplers from each member. Again, anyone who stitches two samplers will get a charm. HEG Ditty Bags As one of HEG’s continuing Community Outreach Projects we put together “Ditty Bags” which are donated to organizations who help women find emergency shelter from Domestic Violence and help find the resources women need to start anew. The Family Violence Program of the Northwest Assistance Ministries is the recipient of our Ditty Bags this year. (www.namonline.org) For the remainder of the year we will concentrate on “The Basics”. Items must be new. Just bring items to any HEG meeting. |
